When are presentation of brain injury symptoms really the fault of the sufferer?

Before approaching any social situation I always try to reassure myself that I'm like anyone else and don't stand out in a bad way due to brain injury. In my head, irrespective of however I feel, perceived normality seems the expected outcome, and I only ever see in my mind such conversations had being done with absolutely no problems at all.

Prior to about a year ago, my former speech deficit was still very apparent and I looked somewhat brain injured (ie imbalance, noticeably absent minded an… Continue

Preprogrammed to avoid problems

"Mummy, that man's walking on the grass" said an infant boy to his mother as she held his bicycle steady on the concrete sidewalk while I went past them on my daily walk today,
"He just doesn't trust us, honey" replied the mother as I tried to apply my best and most disarming smile to show I wasn't drunk or high.

* Being able to walk in the mornings (when I'm usually at my worst)
* Learning to walk without needing to concentrate on whether I appear out of place or not

The first two points are subsequent to the main idea of this blog, which is m… Continue

Life lesson.

I was watching the World War 2 documentary dramatization rerun, Band of Brothers, which reaired tonight on television in this country and I didn't continue watching after the first few minutes - not for any disliking : I think it's one of the few series about the 2nd World War which takes a serious perspective on the violence and emotional toll it obviously took upon the soldiers on both sides : a fine series which doesn't glorify the event.

Nonetheless, I bought the series on dvd in China and… Continue

Being looked down upon post infection

I was going to make this a discussion, but I'll instead write it as a blog.

I recall early on in recovery when everyone I knew pledged their apparent and unwavering devotion to assist whenever their assistance was needed. Despite being very grateful for this, in the back of my mind I wondered if those people actually meant what they said or if they were just caught up in a moments nobility and saying what they knew was the right thing to say with little intention of following it up.

What was t… Continue
