Are there any songs which you'd attribute with where your recovery is at right now?

I was watching music tv while studying today, as I often do, and from no where comes the original version of 'Clocks' by Coldplay - the one *without* that cursed Cuban quartet in it (that version ruins the song, I reckon). I listened to it, as anyone here can on my list of songs, and when that incredibly catchy piano riff which opens the track up kicks off again about 3/4 of the way through the song, I thought to myself, 'Dan, if your recovery was going to be described right now in terms of a song, there is the point which describes it - a song called 'Clocks' - devoted to time which starts with a unique introduction, like your experience in China did with it seeming new and unusual, then encephalitis struck and your recovery beginning was like the main body of the song, now the end has come full circle to repeat the opening riff once again and it seems like the end of your recovery is close and you can finally begin to ask which song comes next' - that's how I see that song for me, which songs reflect your own recovery, eg :

1 - 'Stairway to Heaven' by Led Zepplin, if you feel somewhat drawn to a prolonged song body with a depressing end (great song, though)? or even (and I hope not) :
2 - 'The song that doesn't end' which is the themesong for the childrens show, 'Lambchops playalong' (for those who're unfamiliar, this is an awful and repetitive song for which I apologize in advance typing out) :

'This is the song that doesn't end,
Yes it goes on and on my friend,
Some people, started singing it, not knowing what it was,
And they'll continue singing it forever just because,
This is the song that doesn't end,'

I hope the perpetual, neverendingness, of that last song which is so utterly addictive in the memory that it could be bottled and marketed as a new anaesthesia, is *not* for you, as it suggests you feel stuck in the same part of life which goes on and on and on and never stops until you go burko, but anyway, which one?

Now all I listen to is Leo Kottke, a 6- and 12-string acoustic guitarist. I go to as many of his concerts as I can; as a matter of fact, I saw him in Fairfield, CT on Sunday and in NYC on Tuesday.

Leo Kottke is a country artist? (get this impression by his using a 12 string guitar) - I'm also interested in another aspect of what you say above : you go to concerts - where it's presumably in a darkened area before a bright stage and with, again presumably, many people in the audience and speakers and noise and so forth - does that not have an effect on your recovery? (ie dizziness, fatigue, stress and so forth)

Well, it's just one guitarist. He plays acoustic and it's not rock and roll; not really country either; very hard to explain. Yes, the lights get dimmed with the spotlight on him. He loves to talk between songs and the people in the audience, like me, listen to him. There is a lot of applause but it's fun applause. I don't have anything here I can send you but if you look him up on the internet there are a lot of songs (forget what the clips are called -- duh).

By the way, way back when I first joined this group, Stephen added some Kottke music to my emails. Maybe he'll be so kind as to do it again? Pretty please with sugar on top, Stephen?

Heya, Murray - welcome to the discussion : I *love* Nickelback : they kick butt. I had the song 'Too Bad' by them, going through my head for a while, and it took ages not to think of it whenever something went wrong, offset by the song 'Celebration' when something went right...*cringes*, it's kind of a double header negative moment - bugger things up and have a great song going through your head, but one which reminds you of failing, or a cheesy cliche which makes you feel like a knob.

Do you consider yourself to be a fan of Nickelback in general, or just that one song? I love the song 'Hero' by them.

So you've seen em live? Cool (Don't get too many big acts here in NZ) - what are they like live? Do you think they work well as a group, or do you prefer the cd stuff to live gigs? (for example, I've seen a couple of Metallica recordings and they look incredible on stage with the energy they have and skill and so forth)
